Thursday Throwdown: Cycle flirts – talk to the face or talk to the hand?ShareThis
Tired after a hard day of cycle flirting
A simple question – is flirting whilst cycling acceptable? Does every ride provide an opportunity to find a new date? Or do cyclists (mostly guys?) take advantage of the community spirit and camaraderie amongst cyclists to flirt outrageously?
Anecdotal evidence suggested there’s quite a bit of flirting amongst cyclists. Even on the commute to work (surely one of the least flirtatious moments for most people) cyclists are able to muster the spirit of the Fonz and get flirting!
Why else would conversations at traffic lights be far more likely to occur between guys and girls? One friend was asked by ten different guys whether she needed help with a mechanical problem whilst she was happily resolving the problem on the side of the road. Perhaps it is the fresh air that gets cyclists in the mood?
Sportives seem to provide a perfect opportunity. Longer rides allow for more time to flirt. Forget race tactics, we’re talking about flirting tactics! There rarely seems to be a girl in a bunch not having a “casual” chat whilst pedalling along. It’s not the best place to get phone numbers (for obvious reasons) but cyclists get flirting regardless!
The Going Going Bike Facebook crowd didn’t say the cycle flirting was too bad. Daisy said that she enjoyed some nice chats with fellow cyclists and that it wasn’t all about ogling! Andy said (and perhaps he speaks for many cyclists) that the pretty bikes get the first looks, followed by the rider! However, Rita and Joni agreed with each other that the cycle flirts can talk to the hand.
Were you flirting on the commute to work today?
