Parental support for Bikeability, the UK’s main cycle training scheme, remains high, according to a survey from the Department for Transport.
Ninety eight per cent of parents said they were happy with the Bikeability scheme, according to an Ipsos/Mori poll carried out for the Department for Transport. Three quarters said they were “very satisfied” with the training. Children also gave their thumbs up to the scheme with 96% saying they were happy with Bikeability.
The study also found that 92% of parents whose children took Bikeability courses believed it had improved their child’s road safety. A similar proportion of children also said it had improved their safety. As regards regular cycling take-up among children taking part in Bikeability, half of the children said they had cycled in the past week, against fewer than a third of those who had not taken the course.
Bikeability will be supported by the government for the remainder of this Parliament but funding is unsure beyond 2014.
