The Sky Ride concept has done much to invigorate a focus on leisure cycling in recent years in the UK and also encourage people to get back on a bike. With every year the movement has continued to get bigger as British Cycling strives to get getting one million people back on their bikes cycling more regularly.
From the original city events, Sky Ride is now growing to local events. Building on events in the London Boroughs of Ealing and Redbridge in 2010, two events in the London Boroughs of Hillingdon (31st July) and Barking and Dagenham (21st August) have been added with more events due to be annouced once discussions with local authorities are complete.
New city rides
New city rides in an expanded Sky Ride calendar include Ipswich on June 12th and Hull on August 21st.
Sky Ride will also return to Bath (June 5th), Middlesbrough (July 20th), Bradford (July 31st), Southampton (August 14th), Blackpool (August 14th), Leicester (August 28th) London (September 4th) and Glasgow (September 11th).
Alongside these events, Sky Ride is also sponsoring the Cycletta women’s specific events taking place this year, and the Women social group Breeze bike rides. It is also involved in the Sky Ride Etape Hibernia that takes place in Ireland in August.
