Thursday Throwdown: cycling celebs – choppers or champions?
London – The least friendly city for cyclists

There are some treats around town this weekend for London’s cyclists. Having been over to Smithfield to enjoy the City of London Cycle Style Event yesterday evening (more on this tomorrow) I am planning to head off to Canary Wharf to watch the 8th stage of the Tour of Britain this afternoon before popping down to Look Mum No Hands for the ArtCrank exhibition.
The Tour of Britain hasn’t enjoyed the best of conditions this week and the general classification competition hasn’t really sparked into action as I hoped it would. I thought that HTC, Cervelo and SKY would be locking horns in the GC, but it hasn’t really happened. Perhaps some of the teams were a bit surprised about how tough it has been. Russell Downing of Team Sky certainly said, after stage 4, that this was the hardest ToB he had done and some of the teams don’t seem to have got their tactics quite right for the 8 stage race.
However, the London stage should be a lot of fun. The Royal Docks should provide an imposing backdrop for the 8 lap circuit race. The sprinters should be prominent and I expect Henderson or Greipel to be battling it out on the finish line.
After watching “Britain’s largest free sports event” I will look forward to a Vedet at LMNH to view the ArtCrank cycling poster exhibition. Friends of Going Going Bike and fab designers Milltag are in attendance with a whole bunch of other talented folk. The show has been imported from the States and, to be honest, I don’t really know what to expect. However, if I can buy some cycling posters to hang next to my 2007 London Grand Depart posters I will be very happy.
