Going Going Bike

Jul 102011

If you are near the Olympic site in London this week it might be worth a visit to the View Tube installation on The Greenway cycle route that passes by the Olympic Stadium.

German artists Folke Köbberling and Martin Kaltwasser will spend five days from July 12 turning a car into a bicycle via their Car into Bicycle art project. The project entails taking apart a working car and making a bicycle from the parts of that car. The final bicycle will be ridden by the artists along The Greenway.

They’ve done this before

The two artists have a bit of form for such works of art. Over several weekends in May and April last year they transformed a Saab Turbo 900 into two functional bicycles on a car park at Bergamot Station in Los Angeles.

Köbberling & Kaltwasser Cars into Bicycle is part of Bicycle Wheel, which comprises of five artist’s commissions involving Köbberling & Kaltwasser, Gavin Turk/Ben Wilson, Bicycle Thieves and Colin Priest. We’ve featured Bicycle Thieves here on Going Going Bike in a separate piece.
