Going Going Bike

London Bike Show

The London Bike Show has come around again and starts on Thursday January 12 running until Sunday (January 15) at the Excel exhibition centre in East London.

As ever Going Going Bike will be on hand to bring you the best of the show but like last year we’re also playing a central part in the activities of the show by hosting a charity auction as we did last year.

Bid and make a difference

For this year, we’ve taken our auction efforts up a notch by getting ourselves on the London Bike Show’s Cycling Stage and hosting live auctions in aid of our chosen charity Cycle a Difference.

Cycle a Difference is a charity that aims to reduce neonatal mortality in South East Asia with a specific focus on Vietnam. Read more about Cycle a Difference’s work on their website here.

On Saturday (January 14) and Sunday (January 15), we will be hosting auctions on the Cycling Stage at 2pm. Items up for auction include items donated to Cycle a Difference (including helmets signed by Team Sky).

There will also be auctions of a number of full priced bike frames, clothing and other bike accessories kindly donated by GGB webstore partners and other cycling businesses (more details on auction times here). All proceeds from the auction of items will go to Cycle a Difference.

Additionally, we will be running a post-show auction for Cycle a Difference, where a 10-day luxury holiday to Vietnam for two people will be on offer.

Vietnam charity bike ride

Cycle a Difference will also be exhibiting at the London Bike Show, so if you want to know more about the charity, pop along to their stand. They are organising an 850-mile challenge ride across northwest and central Vietnam to raise money for new born babies in the country, so if you fancy signing up to that charity ride, you can do so on their stand.

What else is going on

There is of course much more going on at the London Bike Show. Bike brands exhibiting include Trek, Genesis, Cube Bikes and Brompton. All of whom will be displaying 2012 models of their bikes.

The Cycling Stage, where the Going Going Bike auctions will take place on Saturday and Sunday, will feature daily bike maintenance sessions, film screenings as well as the Endura Professional bicycle team launch.

If you are looking to be entertained, The Animal Bike Tour will be putting on demos with trial riding and aerial style tricks in a specially built area of the exhibition venue. Visitors will be about try out bike polo at the show, with guidance from experts from the London Hardcourt Bike Polo Association on a bike polo taster pitch.

The London Bike Show runs alongside The Outdoors Show, The Active Travel Show and the Tullett Prebon London Boat Show. If you purchase a ticket for the London Bike Show it is valid for entry to all four shows.

Win tickets to the London Bike Show

We have several pairs of tickets to giveaway for the London Bike Show and will be running a simple question and answer competition via our Facebook page today (Tuesday) and Wednesday to give them away for free (a pair each day). Visit our Facebook page over these two days to participate.

Additionally there will be a chance to win a pair of tickets via our newsletter on Thursday.

If you are picked as a winner, you can attend the show on either Friday, Saturday or Sunday. You will need to pick tickets up at the box office on the western entrance of Excel on the day. The prize does not include transportation costs to the exhibition venue.
