Forget Kate and Wills, marriage on a bike made for two

Like most people in the UK, here at GGB towers we are gripped by the imminent Royal Wedding. Romance is very much in the air with one of our own Directeur Sportifs’ whisking his girlfriend off for some cycling and romance in Kent during the long weekend.
So with a nod to William and Kate, we’d very much like to congratulate the forthcoming marriage of two cycling enthusiasts, Rick Millin (48) and Jo Louden (33) from Guildford, which will take place at the start point of the Etape Caledonia of all places. Rick and Joe will tie the knot at 6am on Sunday May 15 in front of the 5,000 participants taking part at the Etape Caledonia, in Pitlochry.
Engagement
The couple, who are raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, got engaged on their way to Etape Caledonia in 2010 and, after briefly considering a wedding venue in the Bahamas, decided that an early morning start to married life at the closed road cycling event was far more romantic.
“We both wanted a fairly low key wedding and we’re ultra competitive when it comes to cycling so, taking into account we got engaged on the way up to Etape Caledonia last year, we thought: why not?! The only thing now is that I have had just under 4 weeks to organise the whole thing!,” Jo told us.
It is still a race
In way of celebration and a present, event organisers IMG Challenger World have give the couple the numbers 1 & 2 to start the race. Of course, alongside the pre-wedding nerves on the morning of May 15, both Jo and Rick will have to contend with competition nerves.
Rick’s best time in Etape Caledonia is 3hrs 46mins, just a ten minute gap between him and the best time set by Veli-Matti Raikonnen, who has come in with the top time three years on the trot. Jo finished first female in Etape Caledonia’s sister event Etape Hibernia last year, so both her and Rick will not be easing up despite being drunk on love.
