Cycle theft – warehouse targeted

Open door

Going Going Bike is obsessive about cycle security. We have had bicycles stolen from us and don’t want anyone (including ourselves) to ever have to experience that sinking feeling of returning to where you left your bike to find nothing there. The site of empty space on some railings with a broken lock on the street below is amongst the worst in cycling.

Through our Prove It scheme we encourage listers to provide frame numbers of bicycles being listed on our site. In addition, we are in discussions with local police forces, campaign groups and cycle clubs to make our site and the Prove It scheme even more robust. We want Going Going Bike to be the legitimate market for second hand bikes. The threat of having bicycles stolen on the road or even in your home is large.

However, imagine our surprise to hear of the theft of almost 100 bicycles from the warehouse of J E James. The bikes were all still boxed and ready for shipment in their Rotherham depot. However, they were not intended for shipment by a bunch of thieves. Most of the bikes were Giant Talons (perhaps they needed a guard dog with big talons to keep away these sorts of intruders) but 19 folding Dahons were also stolen. Fortunately, despite the loss of almost £20,000 worth of the bikes, JE James say that their operations will not otherwise be affected. All orders previously made will be delivered as promised.
