m/42 - The most well-known Swedish military bicycle. It was produced by several large Swedish bicycle manufacturers (Rex, Husqvarna, Monark, Nymans) from the 1940s to the 1950s with a maximum of interchangeable parts.[1] It uses a rear, one-speed Novo coaster brake hub . In addition, it has a large, sturdy rack with a tool box and storage tube for a short frame pump. Weight: up to 26 kg (57 lb.) This is my Prized Vintage Bicyle with a great history long and short. After the end of WW2 this Bicycle was widely used by The Swedish Military. Many of these items found their way to Amsterdam where the Dutch sought hard wearing bikes that had some personality yet not in danger of being stolen. Nowdays in Holland this bike is highly desirable and is a Dutch Headturner. This is where my history starts with the m/42. I worked in Amsterdam for 5 years from 2000. The bike was a gift to me for xmas. My favourite xmas gift for many years !. I rode the streets of Amsterdam for these 5 years on this bad boy. Here my love relationship grew. After observing members of the public literally stopping in the street to discuss the orgins of my bike i realized that this was something notable. After my spell in Amsterdam i returned back to the UK. My bike had to come with me. I couldnt leave it to somebody else. So i had it shipped at great expense (considering its weight !) It is in London where the bike has remained for the last 10 years, in my parents garage and un-riden. Too heavy for UK roads and hills !! Space requirments now mean the bike needs to go.
