A new annual three day festival of sport for the UK is being launched for next year with cycling at its heart.
With the centre point of Mount Bay in West Cornwall, the Festival of Sport Cornwall will feature a combination of triathlon, cycling, Open Water Swimming and a Beach Run, in and around the Cornwall Region over September 14-16 in 2012.
The cycling events will include an open sportive that explores the quiet roads of rural Cornwall and its coastal rides. There will be two sportive distances: 100km and 140km. There will also be a women’s only cycle sportive/ride with Cycletta organising a 40km route.
For mountain bikers or cyclo-cross riders there will be a 6hr and4hr off-road Enduro event. The course will take riders through rolling farmland, woodland and dirt tracks throughout the St Aubyn Estates and Marazion on a 15km loop.
The triathlon will include half Ironman, Olympic and Sprint events, while there is also an open water swim race over two courses of 1.5km and 3km. The Beach Run course, which takes place on Mounts Bay Beach, will have a 5km and 10km races.
Alongside the main sporting activities, the Festival of Sport Cornwall will be providing the key elements of any multi-day music or arts festival with entertainment for both participants and visitors at Mount Bay.
Mount Bay will host the event village as well as start and finish lines for the main sporting events. The event village will host live music and entertainment (with headline music and comedy acts to be announced), food catering, a beer tent and bar, and a Sporting Expo with renowned keynote speakers including sports nutritionalists, trainers and physiologists.
Fun sporting activity
In addition, there will be sporting activity of a more relaxed nature with Touch Rugby, Gig Rowing, Beach Volleyball, Netball and Coasteering all on offer on Mount Bay’s beach and next to the event village.
As with all good Festivals, camping and showers will be set up no further than 100m away from the main site.
